That quiet, unplanned shift was the starting point for “Have You Given AI the Keys to Your Workplace?”<\/strong>, a workshop held on 21 August 2026 by HRnetOne and PeopleFirst for business and HR leaders across Malaysia.<\/p>\n

With Candice Chew<\/strong> (Director, Key Accounts Asia – HRnetOne Malaysia) hosting, speakers Nigel Thong<\/strong> (Business Leader – HRnetOne Malaysia) and Lee Mei Chin<\/strong> (Senior Business Leader – PeopleFirst Malaysia) opened with a simple observation: AI usage in Malaysian workplaces is accelerating faster than most organisations can govern it, and leadership alignment has not kept pace. They walked attendees through the regulatory landscape shaping AI in the region, including developments closer to home with Malaysia’s own AI Governance Bill.<\/p>\n

Four Risks Every Organisation Should Know<\/h2>\n

The session grounded the conversation in four practical risk areas:<\/p>\n

  • Data privacy and confidentiality<\/strong>, particularly what happens to sensitive information once it enters an AI tool<\/li>\n
  • Quality and accountability<\/strong>, and who is responsible when AI output gets something wrong<\/li>\n
  • Critical thinking and talent development<\/strong>, and whether heavy AI reliance is quietly eroding skills that used to be built through practice<\/li>\n
  • Bias and fairness<\/strong>, especially in hiring, performance, and promotion decisions, where AI can repeat historical bias at scale<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    From Insight to Action: The AI Policy 101 Workshop<\/h2>\n

    The second half of the session moved from theory to practice. Using the AI Policy 101 Worksheet, attendees worked in table groups to answer the real questions behind building a usable AI policy, from classifying data risk to defining human accountability. Each table then shared its takeaways with the room, surfacing common themes across very different organisations.<\/p>\n

    The message that closed the session was a straightforward one: the organisations ahead on AI governance are not necessarily the most sophisticated. They are simply the ones who started the conversation early.<\/p>\n
