Job Description
Role Overview
The Field Engineer is the technical expert supporting front-end semiconductor original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and fabrication customers. This customer-facing role investigates complex fluid system, gas delivery, equipment and process challenges, and recommends solutions that improve tool performance, uptime, yield, reliability and safety.
Working closely with customer engineering and operations teams, you will lead technical investigations, build trusted relationships and connect customer requirements with Sales, Engineering Services, Product Engineering and global technical resources. The successful candidate combines hands-on semiconductor manufacturing experience with sound engineering judgement, clear communication and a strong commitment to customer success.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide on-site technical support to semiconductor OEM and fabrication customers for fluid systems, gas delivery systems and related process applications.
- Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve complex tool, system, process and fluid delivery issues affecting uptime, yield, reliability or operational performance.
- Conduct root cause analysis and recommend effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Support equipment and system installation, startup, qualification, troubleshooting and performance optimisation at customer facilities.
- Assess customer fluid systems and recommend improvements to performance, reliability, safety and operational efficiency, including best practices for high-purity applications.
- Lead technical discussions with customer engineering and operations teams, explaining findings and recommendations clearly and credibly.
- Develop and maintain strong technical relationships with key customer stakeholders; anticipate customer needs and respond promptly to critical issues.
- Partner with Sales on strategic account engagement, solution selling and the identification of opportunities for products, application solutions and engineering services.
- Conduct customer site assessments and technical evaluations; collaborate with Sales, Engineering Services and Commercial Proposal teams to develop solution proposals.
- Support technical clarification meetings, customer presentations and workshops.
- Collaborate with global Engineering Services, Product Engineering, Product Management and Strategic Account teams to address customer challenges and support business growth.
- Share customer insights, application feedback and market intelligence to inform product development and strategic account planning.
- Deliver technical, product and application training to customers and internal associates; contribute to the development of colleagues’ semiconductor and fluid system knowledge.
- Support the commercialisation of products, application solutions and engineering services, as well as strategic initiatives to grow the business.
- Provide technical support to strategic regional customers and distributor partners when required, and undertake other reasonable duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Materials or Instrumentation Engineering, or a related discipline.
- At least five years of relevant experience in front-end semiconductor OEMs, semiconductor fabrication, application engineering, process engineering, tool engineering, field engineering or technical customer support.
- Hands-on experience supporting semiconductor manufacturing equipment, including installation, startup, qualification, troubleshooting or performance optimisation.
- Experience working directly in semiconductor fabrication facilities and production environments is strongly preferred.
Technical Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes, such as deposition, etching, photolithography or implantation.
- Experience with high-purity fluid systems, gas delivery systems and their semiconductor process applications.
- Knowledge of semiconductor tool architecture, subsystem interactions and fab or sub-fab operations.
- Ability to recognise and investigate common issues, including leaks, particle generation, flow performance problems, contamination risks and system response challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct root cause analysis and develop practical corrective and preventive solutions to complex technical problems.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound engineering decisions under pressure.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams, and willingness to learn CRM, business and engineering systems.
